The Tale of the Week – Original Season 2 Week 2

Original league

As I’m sure you are all aware this blog hasn’t been released at least two days after advance so you probably can also tell that for once it isn’t Oli writing it! Instead you have Pack Al this week, moving up the blog writing league from Gameday to Originals.  It was an interesting opening week in the Originals league with a lot of very different looking teams after our first full offseason. One of the biggest differences was a new owner taking over the Seattle Seahawks in Chris Gurrell. I decided to ask Chris some questions so we can find out more about him.

INTERVIEW WITH NEW SEAHAWKS OWNER CHRIS GURRELL

1)  Which Madden was the first you played?

I think I played Madden 98 when I was 4 with my dad 😛 but the first I bought was Madden 13.

2) Do you support a NFL team and why did you choose them to support?

I support the San Francisco 1-15ers, I mean 49ers.

3) Do you think you have a good chance of making the playoffs this season?

I think I have a decent chance, though I’m on a pretty rough losing streak atm.

4) Are there any lesser known players on your roster who you reckon will have a big impact this year?

Yeah, Ray Ray Armstrong, has been great for me in the Gameday league for the 49ers, signed for Seattle in the offseason.

5) The NFC West is very competitive division in OOH football, with the ‘Spent Force’ CB and last year’s Superbowl contending Rams. Who would you say is your biggest threat to having a chance of winning the division?

Probably CB and his niners. I beat him in a preseason tournament a while back I believe, but it was a tough matchup. I know what he can do with limited resources, and it looks like he drafted very well.

6)  What’s your best and worst moments been supporting the 49ers?

Best moment I can remember was probably beating Atlanta in the 2012 seasons NFC championship game. Worst? Probably a year later when NaVorro Bowman has his horrific knee injury. Either that, or any game this season bar week 1.

7) If you were a NFL player on your roster who do you think you would be?

I would probably be the MLB, somebody like a Bowman who can read an offense and try to set up his unit based on what he sees on field and on film. I think I need to hit the gym for that though 😛

8) Anything else to add Chris?

Actually have one more worst moment to add, which was bad at the time and even worse now, the day Jim Harbaugh was fired.

RECAP OF WEEK 1

There were some really exciting games played in week one.  One of the best took place in Tampa Bay where the Luck led Buccaneers were beaten 28-24 by the Brady less Patriots. This game had a great finish with Patriots QB Garoppolo leading the offence down the field with a minute and a half to play for the game winning TD. Detroit overcame the dream team Browns 27-24 with thirty-six points scored between the two teams in the final quarter. Cleveland spent big money bringing big mouth Kirk Cousins in but he was benched after throwing four picks!  The Panthers had a statement win beating last years NFC South winning Saints 22-20 in New Orleans.  One of the biggest shocks of the week came in Kansas city where the Oakland assistant coach and back-up quarterback easily overcame the Chiefs 27-17; Raiders fans are expecting head coach Glyn to kick on from this when he gets back from his vacation. In New York the Jets were beaten 28-21 by the Falcons in a poor quality game where both QBs threw a combined six picks. Jets fans are already expecting new QB Potter to be just another Geno Smith.  A better game took place in San Francisco where the NFC preseason favourite 49ers were ran a lot closer than a lot were expecting by the Cardinals in a 30-21 win. Another assistant coach was in charge in Tennessee this time for the Titans but was unable to match the head coach’s work leading to a crushing 24-7 defeat to rival Colts. Dallas fans were booing post game as the Cowboys suffered a shock loss to the Giants 16-13. Ezekiel Elliot was held to just 45 yards while Odell Beckham Jr didn’t even have a single catch and was complaining post game about coach VFJ not allowing him to have fun due to his playcalling. The Ravens won the season opener 25-3 over the Packers, Ravens were much changed from the Superbowl winning side of last year but looked very similar holding the Packers to 133 total yards and picking off Aaron Rodgers four times. Meanwhile the Bengals once again succumbed to their choking nature losing 21-20 to the Vikings on a late field goal. Elsewhere in the AFC North the Steelers put in an aerial masterclass in a 24-17 win over the Broncos with Big Ben throwing close to 400 yards. Winners of the offseason – the Houston Texans were embarrassed in Jacksonville losing 24-7 to the Jags and being held to a paltry 146 yards on offence. New owner Chris Gurrell had a near perfect opening performance with a 34-13 win for his Seahawks over the Redskins with Wilson putting up a perfect passer rating. In arguably the biggest game in the NFC the Chicago Bears held off a late comeback from the Rams to win 20-14. Lastly rookie Wyatt Benoit put in a promising display for the Chargers with 2 TDs to lead them to victory over the Eagles 31-21.
